Plymhöken and Mantelfalken are two bird sculptures, urbanized animals, an interpretation of what happens when nature meets city. They have got their own account on Instagram @plumehawk_mantlefalcon
The sculptures are well processed in their design, from glossy plastered surfaces to the raw cast surface. The feeling of the material and the movement in the mantle should appear, as should the structure of the plume. They are made of clay and plaster and then cast in recycled aluminum. Made in a solidly cared for craft. To get the qualitative expression in the sculptures, a committed and skilled caster is required. Helena has been working with before Westermalms Metallgjuteri in Norsborg with Nicke Green casting. And just being in this environment inspires and at the time of writing, work is underway on new play objects for Kyrkparken in Järfälla, more about that in another post. Why choose to cast in recycled aluminum?
Aluminum is the most common metal in the earth's crust and the third most common element. It is a versatile material with many uses - everything from beer cans to cars, boats and airplanes. One of the most important properties of aluminum is that it is very suitable for recycling. The material quality is not negatively affected by recycling and aluminum can therefore be recycled an infinite number of times. Recycling aluminum reduces the total environmental impact. When recycling aluminum, only about 5% of the energy needed to produce new aluminum from bauxite is needed.
Other properties of aluminum that make it an interesting construction material with many uses are:
• Easy to join
• Easy to shape
• High strength.
• Corrosion resistant
• Dense material and non-toxic
An aluminum sculpture is not as attractive to steal as a bronze sculpture and thus also becomes a good choice for design in public environments that are exposed.
Where did the birds go?
They are now placed on a landscape of oak logs. They watch over the farm, which was designed by Tema landscape architects, responsible Sara Sarastrand. The farm is located in Barkarbystaden in Järfälla, kv 10. Opened in the autumn of 2018
